SkyFile runs on Windows XP and above and Android. Mac OS and Iphone, Ipad are on the way! Your computer should have at least 512 MB of RAM and enough space on your hardrive to match your storage service level of SkyFile. For the free version, that means at least 6GB of space.
If you have multiple computers you will need to download and install the SkyFile PC client for each machine. Once installed, launch, login and name the device. If this is a new account you will need to put whatever files and folders you want synced into you My SkyFile folder. If you’re linking a new computer to an existing account SkyFile will push your files from the cloud to the new machine.
There is no file size limit to SkyFile. Having said that, you can’t upload or sync a file that is greater than the amount of allotted storage space you have for your account. If you exceed that the program will stop syncing. Upgrade to the next level and you’ll be good to go.
You can store any file type.
Your files are stored on your individual devices (PC, computer, Android tablet or phone) and in the cloud. Right now when we say cloud we mean Amazon’s worldwide network of Simple Storage Servers, (S3).
We’re good, but we’re no Captain James T. Kirk. We can’t sync a file from the internet if the device doesn’t have an internet connection. But, fret not. When you reconnect one of your SkyFile devices to the internet the first thing it does is ping your SkyFile account in the sky and ask the equivalent of; “Hey SkyFile account in the sky! Got any new or changes files for me?” If the answer is yes, those changes are then sent to your now-connected device.
We keep a snapshot when you change the files for 30 days, you can review or restore to any version by just one click.
You can find your deleted files & folders in recycle bin, you can restore or delete forever them anytime.
Nope. We figure that if you want it synced you’ll put it in the folder. We have no desire to be rooting all around your directories. That’s like being a guest at a party and looking in someone’s medicine cabinet.
Like most applications, our application will do that itself on your PC or through Google Market.
To paraphrase one of the SkyFile team’s hippie creative writing teachers, your SkyFile folder can be ‘as tall as a tree.’ In other words, you can make it as large as you device and your SkyFile storage level allow.
We do our best to show you an accurate percentage of what remains but try to avoid making an absolutely finite time prediction because, well, the internet is pretty unpredictable. Speed depends on a lot of factors, some of which we have no control over – like your internet connection speed.
There is no limit to the number of files you can store in SkyFile.
Go to the website, login and head over to the ‘account’ page.
SkyFile is like a butler for your files: Always there when you need him but never intrusive. That’s how the desktop application works. Once you install it and will quietly sit there in the background and check your My SkyFile folder and your SkyFile web account periodically to make sure it has the most recently-changed files and folders. Then, it downloads or uploads to keep things squared away and current.
SkyFile pricing depends on the amount of storage you have. Currently, up to 6GB is free. Up to 50 GB costs $99 a year (or $9.99 a month) and up to 100 GB $199 a year or ($19.99).
Simply paste or drag and drop them into you’re my SkyFile folder.
They are completely deleted from our servers when you delete them. So, delete carefully!
Your system tray is that part of your computer window, usually in the lower right side, where you can usually see little tiny icons. You can find the SkyFile icon there. Right click it and you’ll get a menu for the PC client.
Go to your system tray, right click on the SkyFile icon and click on ‘Sync State.’ Up will pop a window showing you’re SkyFile folder directory. If it has arrow icons in motion, syncing is occurring.
Selective sync is a feature in the PC version, that allow you choose which folders you want to be synced to other SkyFile devices, you can save data space and reduce traffic flow.
All folders and files in your SkyFile by default is selected to syncing with cloud. You can change the setting through right click menu. Note, never change the setting when the target folder still have files in syncing state.
Deselected folder will disappear from local PC, but it is only for that specified PC, the folder data are still stored in cloud and syncing between other devices. Deselect a shared folder will not remove you from that shared folder member list.
Each device linked has a little application in it that monitors your SkyFile folder checking the file and folder names and states. When something changes it gives a shout out to the cloud essentially saying, ‘Hey! Got some changes here! Sending them up to you to update!’ Then, that’s what it does. If the device is linked your files are auto-magically moved to the right place at the right time.
Well, *you* don’t need to sync. SkyFile does that for you. All you need to do is to run SkyFile from your urDrive, and place files onto the MySkyFile folder. The SkyFile application will automatically sync in the background. No need to push any buttons or be mindful of it.
We do our best to show you an accurate percentage of what remains but try to avoid making an absolute finite time prediction because, well, the internet is pretty unpredictable. Speed depends on a lot of factors, some of which we have no control over – like your internet connection speed.
SkyFile runs on Windows XP and above and Android.
We hate even having to have this question here; but let’s face it, sometimes Windows does weird things to even the best applications. (It’s kind of like a Rube Goldberg machine.) Anyway, if something happens to SkyFile on Windows, click “CTRL + ALT + DEL” and launch your task manager. Close the SkyFile.exe application and restart. That should fix things.
Yes, simply unlink the machine. You will then be able to link it to another SkyFile account.
No it can’t. That file type is a Windows ‘link’ file type. In Windows-speak a .lnk file means, ‘the full version of this file is sitting in another directory.’ Move the original version of that file into your SkyFile folder for handy syncing.
Yes, you can also access your entire SkyFile on the go! You can easily access your files from your android device by launching and logging in your SkyFile account. You can also upload photos, music and other files from your phone to SkyFile.
SkyFile happily runs on Android 2.2 and above
Goodness gracious it sure does! Android 2.2 or above. We highly recommend it, too. Nothing like being able to stretch out with your tablet and have access to all of your files. (Upon reflection, there are many things like or better than that. But it’s still pretty darn handy.)
Double tap the file name to launch the file-specific menu. Click ‘favorites’ and that file will be saved to your Android device favorites.
We’re not. SkyFile on Android devices syncs file and folder information automatically but downloads the contents of files on demand. That means that you’ll see current, up to date information about your entire My SkyFile folder but we will *only* send you the full contents of that file when you double click on it. This way, we don’t crush your device’s available storage.
Right click on any of the files and pictures in your device and SkyFile will auto-magically upload and make them a part of your travelling mix of synced files.
All you need is an internet connection and a browser. With those two things you’ll be able to access your files from the web any time with an internet connection. To do so, please login to SkyFile website. Logging in will take you right to your ‘My SkyFile’ folder on the web. From there you’ll be able to access and work with your files.
The SkyFile website works best with Maxthon 3. (Don’t know Maxthon 3? You should try it out. Seriously. It’s hella fast and has features that make surfing the web fun again. Download it at www.maxthon.com)
The SkyFile website also works with the other web browsers, too. Meh.
Getting more space is very easy. Access your account on the SkyFile website, enter your payment information into our PayPal processing solution and you will receive additional storage space.
Yes. SkyFile payments are processed by PayPal. SkyFile is a global product available in many different countries and languages. We chose PayPal for its security, ease of use and global presence. PayPal is a service you can trust.
Maxthon is the parent company of SkyFile.
To cancel your account, please use the contact form, select ‘cancel’ in the dropdown menu and include your email address . SkyFile will then delete your web account, all files and all device information.
Downgrades from a premium account will take effect once the existing account term has ended. You will be notified by email as your account reaches the end of its term and given options to continue or upgrade. To downgrade or cancel simply do nothing.
Your files will remain accessible from the website but you will not be able to sync anything until you either; reduce the amount of stored files under 6 GB or upgrade to match your storage needs.
The SkyFile team takes your privacy and security extremely seriously. We use many of the same security protocols and best practices as banks and online merchants like Amazon. For example, we encrypt your files when syncing. Also, all web payments and user account information is done over an SSL layer. In many ways SkyFile is more secure than most computers.
The SkyFile service keeps an encrypted back-up of your files as part of our overall server architecture and best practices. SkyFile support personnel are prohibited from accessing any of this personal data. In rare cases, SkyFile support personnel may access the meta-data of files to perform customer service and to improve our product. Meta-data is the information contained in every digital file that contains information like its name, create timestamp and last updated timestamp. It is not the actual *content* of the file.
SkyFile will never share your content with others, including law enforcement, for any purpose unless you direct us to do so. Please consult our Privacy Policy to learn more about how we collect and manage personal information.
Amazon has less access to your data than SkyFile. From that point of view, AWS is a very ‘dumb’ service. Amazon Web Services is one of the world’s largest providers of internet hosting and didn’t get there by being lax about security and privacy. They have well-developed policies of their own; that, as a user of their services, SkyFile follows. To learn more go here.
